The Asian American Writers Workshop (AAWW) deliberately, rationally and successfully develops the publishing careers of Asian American authors and editors. AAWW also builds audiences, serving the community as well as the profession of art. Founded in 1991, with headquarters in New York, it addresses itself to the publishing industry there but has in the past mounted tours throughout the United States.

Vietnamese American authors associated with AAWW include novelist Monique Truong, who studied there, poet Barbara Tran, who published her Watermark anthology there, and poet Quang Bao, longtime director. Linh Dinh won a juried AAWW annual award in 2007 for his "Borderless Bodies" (Factory School, 2006) and Monique Truong won in 2004 for "Book of Salt" (Houghton Mifflin, 2003). As of 2009, no Vietnamese American author had yet won the AAWW Member's Choice award.
