Duong Nghiem Mau

Dương Nghiễm Mậu (1936), real name Phí Ích Nghiễm, is a fiction writer and essayist, noted for his experimental stories and novels.

He was born Hà Đông, spent his teen years in Hanoi, went South in 1954, living first in Huế, then Nha Trang, then finally Saigon, starting in 1957. In 1966, he joined the South Vietnamese Army, serving as a military journalist from 1967 until the end of the war in 1975. He was imprisoned for two years. Released, he learned lacquer painting, and has survived with that trade until now. In 2007, Văn Nghệ publishing house of Ho Chi Minh City reissued four of his books, Nhan sắc, Đôi mắt trên trời, Tiếng sáo người em út and Cũng đành.
