Harry Aveling (1942) is an adjunct professor at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Ohio University as well as at the School of Social Sciences at La Trobe University, in Australia, from where he retired. After a career studying Malay and Indonesian literature and translation theory he has turned to Francophone Vietnamese literature, translating the tales of Phạm Duy Khiêm from French into English.
