Hoàng Ngọc Phách (1896-1973) was a pioneer fiction writer and critic.

He was born in Hà Tĩnh. His novel, Tố Tâm (1925), was one of the first written by a Vietnamese. (In 1887, Nguyễn Trọng Quản published a crudely written, 28-page Truyện thầy Lazarô Phiền (Saigon: J. Linage). Hồ Biểu Chánh published his first novel, Ai Làm Được [Who Could Do It] in 1912, and by 1925 had published eight novels.)
