La Truong Son

La Trường Sơn (1938-2003) was a scholar, poet and translator from Vietnamese into Chinese.
Born in Huế of Cantonese parents, he emigrated to China in 1955. He was a prolific translator of Vietnamese folktales, proverbs and folk poems, as well as books by Vietnamese ethnographers Trần Văn Giáp, Phan Kế Bính, Ngô Đức Thịnh, Toan Ánh and Lý Khắc Cung. He also translated all the poems of Huyện Thanh Quan and Hồ Xuân Hương, and wrote dozens of essays covering all aspects of Vietnamese culture. Writing in Vietnamese, he was the author of Không kể mơ và tỉnh, poetry, and Đêm đọc Truyện Kiều, poetry (Nam Ninh, 1990). As a translator, he's responsible for a Chinese version of Nguyễn Du's Truyện Kiều (Nam Ninh, 2006).
