Andrew X. Pham

Andrew Xuan Pham (1967) is a writer in Oregon. Born in Saigon, he emigrated to California with his family in 1977.
His memoir, Catfish and Mandala: A Two-Wheeled Voyage through the Landscape and Memory of Vietnam (Picador, 2000), won the 1999 Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Award for nonfiction and a 2000 Whiting Writer's Award. He prepared for publication Last Night I Dreamed of Peace (2007), a translation of the surgeon Đặng Thùy Trâm's war diary, published in Vietnam as Nhật ký Đặng Thùy Trâm (2005). The Eaves of Heaven: A Life in Three Wars (2008) tells the life of his father, Thong Van Pham, in his father's voice.
