Lê Ngọc Trà
Born in 1945 in Quảng Ngãi Province, Việt Nam, he graduated from Ha Noi College of Education in 1968 and was appointed an instructor of literature there. In 1976 he moved on to Moscow University where he earned a doctoral degree in 1980. After returning to Viet Nam he taught at Ho Chi Minh City College of Education from 1981 to 1985. In 1988 he completed his doctorate of sciences (Dr. Sc.) degree with special concentration on criticism and theories of literature at Moscow University.
Lê Ngọc Trà’s past administrative appointments included Director of the Center for International Education, Culture Exchange, and Research and Rector of the Institute of Education, Ho Chi Minh City College of Education. Currently he is Distinguished Professor of Literature at the same institution.
Lê Ngọc Trà has served on the Literary Criticism Committee of the Viet Nam Writers Association and on the Selection Committee for National Recognition and Honor Conferral (Literature Section). In 1991 he won the Writers Association prize for literary criticism for his book Lý luận và văn học [Theory and Literature]. In 2007 he was the winner of the National Literature and Art Award.
